What kind of SHOES should I wear to Zumba®?
This is the most asked question from my participants. The answer is, a fitness shoe, but what one is the best?
I will start off by saying PLEASE DO NOT WEAR ANY OF THE TONING SHOES THAT ARE ON THE MARKET RIGHT NOW. They are NOT meant for fitness classes and can result in injury during class. Plus, they are a waste of time and money, in my professional opinion.
Zumba® requires alot of twisting and turning on the ball of the foot. Therefore, you should wear a shoe that has the least amount of rubber and traction at the bottom. The shoes you wear do not need to be expensive. First off, go in the closet and look at all your sneakers and choose the ones that have good lateral and arch support but do not have alot of rubber "nubbies" at the bottom. RUNNING OR WALKING SHOES are NOT RECOMMENDED FOR ZUMBA® due to the fact that they are designed for forward movement rather than side to side.
The shoe that I have pictured above is from Nike®. Shoes like these are available at many of the stores in the area including Rack Room, Hibbets, Kohl's and the Nike Outlet Center. Shoes like this one would be very suitable for my class. I do not endorse any particular shoe because there is not one shoe for everyone. If you go shopping for shoes, ask for "dance sneakers" or "cheer shoes". They usually have a circle on the bottom of the shoe for pivoting. If you are interested in purchasing shoes off the internet, I have a link and a discount code on my website,
I can not allow any shoes besides fitness shoes or sneakers (no socks or barefeet either) because of safety concerns, so if you bring your friend to class for the first time, please let them know.
Email me if you have any more questions about shoes.
Zumba® is different everywhere you go!
One of the most common statements made by participants is "This class is different than the other Zumba® class I took" There are several reasons for this. One of the biggest reasons is this is my passion and my life. This is what I know best. I have been certified in the fitness industry all my working life and I know how to make working out a joy. I spend anywhere from 4-10hrs a day, including weekends, working on my classes from music to choreography.
Most instructors are part time since they have professional careers as well. Some even own business and teach Zumba® Fitness in addition to their normal business. While many of them are successful, it is a full time job to teach Zumba® Fitness true to how it is intended and keep it fun class after class.
I have been dancing and teaching all of my life. My music and my moves are unique since I spend hours a day exploring, finding and buying music.
As you may have already discovered, you simply cannot compare one Zumba® Fitness class to another because the instructor has so much control to either make it great or not so great. I teach my class the way Zumba® Fitness is intended by it's creator (Beto) and is very similar to what you would experience in his class which is minimum talking and high energy and a workout.
I have been teaching Zumba® Fitness since 2007 when I took the Zumba® Fitness workshop in New Orleans. Before teaching Zumba® Fitness I taught a Latin Cardio class to American beats which was a unique class to the area. When Zumba® Fitness was introduced, it was a very easy transition for me to understand the Latin Rhythms and the concept of Zumba® Fitness .
